She founded the IVF laboratory in the German Hospital in 1996 as the head of the laboratory and became chief embryologist in the American Hospital - Istanbul at the end of 1996. She is currently the principal embryologist in this laboratory which performs over 1000 IVF/ICSI and PGD cycles per year.
Her major interest areas are in-vitro sperm/oocyte maturation, in-vitro culture techniques, cryopreservation and blastocyst culture. She has published extensively in these fields.
She’s a member of ESHRE since 1996 and a member of Alpha Society of Scientists in Reproductive Medicine since 1999. She became an EC member of Alpha in 2005. As the congress president, she organized the biennial Alpha meeting in 2008 - Istanbul, Turkey. She became chair of Alpha society in 2008. Hardarson Thorir
Thorir Hardarson obtained his Bachelor’s degree on 1993 from the University of Iceland, faculty of Biology. He obtained his masters degree in physiology from the faculty of medicine in 1997. That same year he moved to Gothenburg to start his training at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in human IVF. He finished his PhD in embryology 2002.
He has published a number of peer-review articles and been involved in several societies both domestic and international.
Jacques Cohen
Jacques Cohen, PhD. is the founder and president of Galileo Research Laboratories, LLC. He served as the Scientific Director of Assisted Reproduction at the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey since 1995 and is associated with several laboratories involved in IVF and PGD, both in Europe and throughout the US.
Dr. Cohen was trained at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Holland as a Reproductive Physiologist specializing in in vitro fertilization and cryobiology. His initial studies of human embryology occurred in the late 1970s and he was one of the first embryologists in Bourn Hall Clinic (UK). He moved to the US in 1985 after having studied the application of IVF in male factor infertility and the cryopreservation of blastocysts. The same team was responsible for the development of assisted hatching and co-culture techniques. In 1989, he became the Laboratory Director for the IVF program at Cornell University Medical College in New York, where aneuploidy and mosaicism diagnosis, as well as fragment removal, were added to the list of technologies in use in assisted reproductive medicine. He and his team have continued their work on the development of new methods in cryobiology and preimplantation genetics at Saint Barnabas Medical Center and in the various other centers with which they are affiliated.
Dr. Cohen travels extensively and is a frequent lecturer at conferences and seminars on topics in human fertility research worldwide.
